I've heard that some plecos live somewhat near me in central/south Texas, and that is where I live... My mom has a pond that is at least 1000 gallons and it has 2 ryukin, and 3 oranda goldfish, along with 30 mosquito fish+ their fry.

Is it possible to get a full grown pleco at the LFS and put it in the pond?

It should be fine most of the time where you are, but if you have a cold snap it's probably going to die, unless you net it out and bring it in.

If the mosquitofish survive, the pleco should, too.

Are there water lilies or other ornamental plants? if so large plecos love to dig, and may make a mess of the plants. After you put it in, you may never see it again, because of its camouflage.
It will also eat any goldfish eggs.
If none of these are a concern, it may do fine.

Cool! Thanks guys! I will think this over, and if I do get one the LFS sells full grown ones for 20$

We have some hornwort and some lillies...

I'd throw in a decent sized one not necesarrily full grown. If you can pick up two or three 3" ones ur in luck as they will eat a lot of the algae at that size and should grow to about 8" in about 5 months. Good luck!

Maybe you're mistaking mosquitofish for something other than what we call them here.

Mosquitofish will survive much further north. I have a breeding population in my pond and I'm in southeast Missouri. My pond froze last year and they're still there.
