Just had to euthanize my aro..... Feeling pretty terrible

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had to put my 8" green severum down due to my own mistake. Hole in the head got out of control because I treated for fungus not realizing he had both. Fungus meds are food for some parasites, such as hole in the head. Terrible day.

I'm sorry to hear that :(
((hugs))

I cried when my favorite goby got stuck in the rocks and got sick and died. He was my little pet. Also when my cat turned the power strip off to my sw predator tank and my dwarf fuzzy, tang, and trigger died.
And by pure absentmindedness me and my husband both forgot we left the lid partially open on my arows tank after a water change, and he jumped. We ran to the store for all of 15 mins or so. That's all it took.
He was 22" when we measured the body. That was sickening.

hope you don't give up fishkeeping. Bad stuff happens.

Really sorry for your loss. It sounds like you made the decision based on what's best for your fish. That's not an easy choice to make, but it is the kindest thing you can do sometimes.

I felt awful when I euthanized my goldfish earlier this year, and even worse when I stupidly held on to hope that my big Oscar would pull through after he started going downhill. I wish I had given him a peaceful exit, instead of allowing him to suffer until he finally died.
It's just a part of life, for better or worse.

^This.

I've had a few fish that I just didn't have the heart to put down, and afterward felt bad and realized they would have been better off if I did.

You did the right thing if our fish was suffering.

The same goes for other pets too. I've had to put a few dogs down over the years, and the ones that were euthanized went much more peacefully than the ones I've had to watch waste away and die when I was a kid and my family had no money for vet care.

Sorry for yor loss bro. You had the opportunity to raise a fish and keep him healthy and happy and at the end (when he needed you most) you did what a responsible pet owner is supposed to do. Though very sad, I am happy that there are still hobbyists like you out there. Be happy for the time you had and proud that you gave him a great life. Must have been extremely difficult doing what you did and I couldnt imagine having to do that myself.
