Was setting up my 90 yesterday night and was just about done putt the hoods and light on the top middle brace gave way on one side. it is a 5 inch or so piece of acrylic and I was wondering if it actually gave the tank support and was needed or if it was just there to support lights and covers. I was planning to just put some silicone on it and stick it back up there with the tank full but after doing some searching there are different opinions. Should I drain the tank and silicone it back together so there wont be any pressure on the tank or should I just silicone it full. Heres a picture but its kind of hard to see what going on, basically only the back side fell in. I was holding it up with tape so that it didnt hang there and pull the other side off but it didnt work thats whats in the picture.

unless you have an old tank with thick glass, yes, you need it. I would definitely drain it before repairing.

you can use a big wood clamp if you dont want to mess with the repair

I broke my cross support on my 55 and it bowed a few inches before I retired it, yes you need it or the seams will fail eventually

+1 for the clamp, Ive seen clamps that work just as well or even better than the original support. Cheap, quick and easy

I'VE had a clamp on my 45 long for 4 yrs:)

Depends on how it's built. If it came with one, then you need it. If it didn't, then no. I cracked the center brace on an old 135g while it was full of water. It was quite the butt puckering experience watching the tank bow out as I rushed to drain the water.
