Rescued this guy (for free) from my LFS, was the last in a batch of these weird (trumpet? tiger?) knife fish. When I picked him up he was so weak he couldn't swim away from the tank's filter intake. I've since nursed him back to health, and as you can see in the video, he's quite active when fed some mysis or krill. He seems healthy enough to go in another tank.

But as you can also see, dude is shaped almost like an S. I'm almost definitely naming him Squiggles.

So is this a spinal injury or what? Scoliosis knife fish?

Sorry for poor video quality, I usually leave the lights low on quarantine tanks. Stuff floating around is the mysis he's eating, crud on the ground is hair algae growing on pebbles I added from another tank.

That is really cool...I would guess spinal deformity as well. I too rescue the "ugly/unwanted" fish form the LFS....much to my wife's dismay!! LOL

Nice pickup either way and keep taking good care of him

Yeah, deformity is probably a better description than injury. I figure if he actually broke his back into that shape he wouldn't be able to swim so well.

You can't see it in the video but he actually has really cool markings! So weird, yes, ugly, naaah.

Ya looks like a deformity. 100% not a trumpet. Could be a tiger or a carapo. Hard to tell in the dark haha. Good on ya for saving the guy.
