I have found that pit bulls are in my finds the most likely to turn on small children. I know three families that have either had to move or get rid of their pit bull because of aggression around small children. I wouldn't trust one around any small child. But dogs I wouldn't trust in general with small children.

Hello; This was from fox news, a different site. Sorry you are annoyed but I and perhaps others have a different point of view. The thread is about babies and pitbulls. I do not post about this with any hope of altering your your view point. The other forum members that read this do sometimes like that I post such information. I have recieved support in PM for my point of view. Good luck with your pitbull.

Its great info . I'm not ignoring that it could happen . She knows that she's not the only baby and accepts that. She gets to spend alot of time with me same as my son. She has grown to love him and sleeps with him in his room. Of coarse he's in a crib n she has a bed on the floor. She wakes me up when he starts crying in the middle of the night.

I've had pits my entire life never had a problem with any. I would say it has to be the individual dog. Just like people and fish they each have individual temperaments.

Hello, im most likely going to greatly regret this but here it goes. To the one individual who has been giving out the site for dog bite statistics. i have found flaws in the site. for one the site seems to be bent on blaming pits and other so called dangerous breeds of dogs for dog bites. The statistic that 74% of dog bites are committed by pits and rottweilers is grossly biased and wrong. On the site under pit myths it say most people can't identify pits is a falsity. I have to disagree with that. Most people can't identify a pit. The term "pitbull" comonly covers three breeds. 1. american pit bull terrier 2. American Staffordshire terrier And the staffordshire bull terrier. I work at an animal shelter and can say from first hand experience people can't identify dog breeds. We had a purebred dogo argentino who a woman called a lab doberman mix. We have also had people call jack Russel mixes a pure bred jack Russel. My own dog ,who is a mutt, was called a min pin. On this site it misrepresent the original purpose of several breeds the presa canrio was not originally a fighting dog.It is a breed whose original purpose was an estate guard, it was bred to chase and if necessary attack intruders. It does have a high incidence of dog aggressive but so do may terriers. The cane corso was a italian cattle drover. It was after these jobs became obsolete that many lowbrow individual turned the breeds to dog fighting pit included. Now to the OP i think it was a bad title choice, should been called dogs with nervous or shy temperaments around babies but hey you found the dog a good home. just my two cents now lets all just stop the hate mongering and arguments and get back to talking bout fish. please subjects like this in my opinion stir up bad blood between people. will someone please close this thread

Ya I agree. Pits just have a bad reputation. I have seen extremely loyal pits but the most common thing with pits I've seen is aggressiveness towards small children

My question to you is: what kind of aggression? How did they display this aggression? Did the small children do something that elicited the response? Each situation has to many variables to just lump pits in it. It boils down to the individual dog. Which is still highly variable: age, genetic, socialization, physical health, etc.

I wouldn't call it common cause even as a small child I've never had a pit be aggressive toward me. My brother in law has a big ass blue nose pit and 3 small boy from 3-6 yrs old and the dog doesn't bother them. He might get a little hyper when they play with him but never become aggressive. My son is 5 months now and when I sit with him on the floor my pit will just lay there ignoring him. He'll scratch her, bit her ,slap her and she allows it cause she knows he's just a baby just like her. She has never shown any signs of discomfort or aggression toward him.

Pits are very tolerant of young ones in their family. That why they used to have the nickname nanny dog. Just saying

You have a very good point and alot of people don't know the stuff you said about the breeds. As for my dog . She is back with me now after someone broke in a neighbors house across the yard. I talked my land lord into keeping her for protection since most the time my wife is home alone with my son while I'm working. Your right I should have choose a different title for this thread. To be honest I respect everyones point of views on this subject but it does cause alot of arguments cause some people like the one who posted the link to those can speak from experience. They go by what they read and hear on the news.
