I rescued two green crabs that had no claws (fighting, predation, who knows) - and had them in a "touch pool" in my nature classroom. I've taken down the pool since that was temporary for the summer - the crabs are now in a 15 gallon, with 2 native killifish.

The tank is not heated - but I would like a little more color and activity in the tank. I like damsels - what temp should I heat the tank to, for those? How many damsels are best ? I'm not sure if they prefer to be in groups? Does it matter if I got one each of a couple different types?

What are other fish that would be good for this setup? I know the tank is small, so nothing that gets big, like triggers, groupers, etc. The crabs will re-grow their claws, but I'm not worried about them eating the fish at this time.

Please limit your fish suggestions to what can easily be found at PetCo or another LFS, since this is a low-budget, low-priority tank. (I collect my own sea water, since the tank is small enough not to have to mix my own salt, so the fish should be fairly adaptable.)

Thanks!

True - but not helpful.

You would be mixing fish from different parts of the world but one blue spotted jawfish or a trio of catalina gobies might fit the bill as they are both collected from the northern sea of cortez/socal.

I'm not too worried about the native killifish - they are in there just because.

I'm not really interested in paying attention to where the fish are from, or mixing, etc.

I know the tank is small - but I'm looking for suggestions for something that is a bit active, and has some color, and easily found locally - as I said, this is a low priority tank. I can always give away fish when they outgrow this tank, keep that in mind.

So, if we could stick with my questions, that would be great, knowing that it's not a long-term project.

x2.

I'm pretty sure that I mentioned Catalina gobies in the OP's previous thread about coldwater saltwater fishes for this aquarium.

Wiggles - yes you did - but common sense tells me that all I need to do is add a heater to expand my choices a bit.
I love filefish - great idea.
I have not seen any Catalina Gobies, though - but I do love gobies.

Thanks!

Catalina's would really appreciate a room temp tank.

A little colony of them would make an interesting "species" tank perhaps with some various macro algaes and soft corals.
