I has a boom stand and weight. But just I had better results shooting the light into a Styrofoam box. But great pictures buddy, glad you like the Alienbee 800, I'm gonna get a B1600 soon to fight the sun.
 
what do you mean shoot into a sty box Chon?

fishe, i didn't black out the background but i did darken the shadows in the pic.

Yeah i turn the alienbee up facing into the box. The tank is 340gallons, and i have been lucky enough to get a hold of a 75gal Styrofoam box. It bounces nicely. Ill take a picture of the setup next time i shoot.

i tried it only prob is i cant get the bee to face upward because of the wire. i used a little box as a stand but that made it too tall for the sty box.
 
i really like the way this one came out. probably my fav shot w the alienbees so far. used a sty box and aimed the bee at the right side. still need to find a way to get the sty boxes to work for me...:S
