Your dog just recently snapped at someone? So your dog remembers being beaten, Not only does it remember who beat it but it remembers the actions of being beaten. This dog could easily misinterpret someone's actions while playing with it and snap at them.

With the history of this dog, IMO you are being very negligent in keeping this dog, hopefully your son won't have to pay the ultimate price for your choice.

I think you misunderstood me. Yes she did snap at him and it was only when he reached out to pet her. She doesn't play with people or me for that matter the most she plays is fetch that's it. Thats your opinion but your not there everyday to see what really goes on. She has never barked or snapped at anyone of my family or friends. So obviously its only towards her previous owner. Ive kept many dogs with historty never had a issue even the one who were actually mentally challenged .So excuse me for trying to give the dog the good life it deserves .

Hello; I do not think that those of us that are expressing concern are trying to be critical of you for trying to give the dog a better life, At least I am not. My concern is the potential for a negative outcome for your son. But as you say, in the end it is your choice to make.

On another point, to be sure that I fully undrstand. If my neighbors dog "turned on" the people that raised it but did not actually bite, then this is not to count as aggression. Perhaps this analogy will present my point of view. If I shoot at some one but do not actually hit them, then this will not count against me?

By the way I do not know if the neighbors dog actually inflicted bites or not. My neighbor simply described it as that the dog turned on them.

There is a parental bad outcome with any dog. I don't dismiss it as its always in the back of my mind but I don't let it get the better of me and give her a little faith and alot of love. I'm not saying her past history doesn't count or what happened with neighbor didn't count but being aggressive and actually biting is two different things. There could have been something wrong with the dog to become aggressive. Both the person would have to do something to trigger the aggression or an attack. That's what I was trying to explain before about her snapping at her previous owner and not me or my family is cause with me she knows she is safe. With her previous owner she remembered him and what he did and tried to bite him. To be honest its karma he abused her so she tried to bite him.

Hello; We are to a point of repeatedly going over similar ground in this discussion. I do appreciate that you have not resorted to unplesant language and slurs as has happened in other threads. You have also expressed your point if view in an understandable manner. While I continue to have reservations about the situation with your son and your dog, I do hope that it all continues to go well. Good luck.

We can have a civil conversation. Right? I see no need to resort to that type of language. And thanks

I have 2yo girl n our dog is a 1.5 yo pit I have raised from a pup she been spoked by my daughter in her sleep witch she reacted to in a defensive manor untill she saw who it was then just looked at me knowing she was wrong even tho she never got close this dog has never show any human aggression exept when sombody new comes to the house she gets defensive but is fine as long as I let her meet them but I dare anybody to raise a hand to any member of my fam n c How she reacts
The same dog tho is highly dog aggressive witch make me have to be very carfull around Outher dogs but I know her tells n can normaly correct the issue before she has ever made a sound

So my point every dog has its own temperament what it likes and dont like the most dangerous dog is the one u trust to much
Have seen way to many small dogs that there owner said was fine and never hurt anybody come after ppl or my dogs without any aggressive actions towards them

Wow! Do you know what periods or commas are?

I habe no experience with pits.

I do have considerable experience with mastiff breeds and have raised six children with mastiffs.

In my experience you never, regardless of how much you know your dogs, leave a young child with such a dog unsupervised. I have had accidents with my dogs, who viewed my kids as young pups and just wanted to discipline them.

And a Neapolitan, for instance, disciplining a six year old is not pretty, even if the dog is meaning no harm.

Completely different from a smaller dog, and smaller dogs are way more responsible for active children attacks.

So, again only based on my experience, kid should never be alone with dogs.

Kid should never play with the dog on its knees. Needs always to be on a superior level to the dog.

And a lot of other stuff.

I now am a grandfather, allready. I still owe large breeds.

I would, however, not repeat the ease with which i raised my kids among those loving beats.

Too risky.

Pit bulls have bad name for them self but nothing to worry about that pup will grow to protect your family trust me pit bulls are loyal and best dogs ever increased my kids around 80 pound pit bulls and never had a problem...image.jpgimage.jpg
