10 MIN FX5 CLEAN OUT!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I kid you not they grab a mouthful, swim 12", and spit sand with their face 1/2" from the intake. They do the same thing to an ac110 with 1 intake tube that's about a foot above the sand. If they were just kicking up sand I could fight back but this is premeditated.

That sounds like youtube worthy footage.

Premeditating filter sabotaging fish..LOL!!!

Geez f1 I wish, my fx's get cleaned at least once a month, so I'm cleaning one a week easy, in that month time my filters get 10x more dirty than yours looked. 2 many big messy fish

I use floss in the top and bio in the bottom, middle varies most have floss and bio.

When I clean I have an extra hose I use to empty the canister half way, pull it out n pop it open. Toss the first tray of floss move the second tray to the top spot, usually leave bio tray alone. The sponges from first tray get cleaned in tank water, then replaced into the bottom bio tray, sponge from bottom goes to middle.

Use thisuploadfromtaptalk1349123554913.jpgto flush the filter with about 10 gal after the clean.... Just recon to the input hose con this aux hose to the output open valves and plug in the filter, this way I never get debri blowback from the filter
I know you've seen the pics of under my tank already but not sure if you saw the mods to the sumpuploadfromtaptalk1349123932432.jpguploadfromtaptalk1349123967703.jpg

I just take it all outside lay the foam out, get the hose put my thumb over it and blast each side for about 20 seconds each. Then I blast trays and inside the can, then my wire hose cleaner for the tubes and valves.

00roll: switching to 1x/week feedings has helped a lot for the gunk. You can hire me to be ur filter cleaner! Full time job lol

BTW nice setup man, that's some sick filtration!

I clean my fx5 about 4x per year, takes about 10min, I just take out side, bag up the bio media and go to town with the hose! Easy!

What do some of you do?

How do you fill the FX5 back up with water?

The intake/outake tubes hold the water/pressure when the valves are closed.

I shut the filter off, close the valves, pop them off, take outside to clean, put everything back together, hook back up to tank, open valves and water auto fills by itself..... Very easy. It was my understanding that's how ur supposed to do it I think...

The intake valve should be shut. After everything is hooked back up, simply open the intake side and it will begin syphoning. I like to run the intake into a bucket temporarily upon intial start up to catch all the crap the the ribbed hoses contain.

EDIT: F1 beat me to it.

Yes, you both are right. I just wanted to make sure others on here reading this don't fill up the FX5 with water from the hose.

I learned the hard way. :thumbsdow

Lol... I did the same thing with my xp4 but it didn't have valves.. filling 5.5gals in the fx5 would be a pain to carry and position, my back would be done for....
