Hepsetus Odoe coming next week! Tips?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^ Good to know. I actually want them to grow a bit before I transfer them to the 180.

I also hope that their "garbage can" instincts kick in soon, because they haven't eaten yet. I've fried krill and silversides and they haven't taken. I'm going to pick up some Rosies tonight and hope they eat them. It's been a while since I've fed any of my fish live, so the bichir and the wolf fish might get a treat as well.

Pikes are garbage cans - they'll eat anything and everything - also grow pretty quick - in 40 gal won't last long. Mines just a couple years old and well over a foot.

exact how old and how big? does it cohab with other fish?

AWESOME!

I love these fish! I wish they would work with ATF though, can't have them hurting each other. :'(

I'm gonna get a lookalike instead; a Ctenolucius hujeta.

Well. It's been almost a week, and they haven't eaten. It the same situation with my silver arowana all over again. Starting to stress me out. Ideas? Here is a pic of their tank. Everything seems fine, they just don't want to eat. I finally caved and put some feeders in their to tonight, and still nothing!

Hey Tom, thanks for chiming in. I'll see if I can get some frozen krill. I know you mentioned that in your e-mail, but I must have hastily read it as 'freeze-dried' which I what I keep. I'll test the water parameters tonight; temp seems steady at 80. Any chance they would want more coverage? I threw those fake plants in yesterday, because the tank was bare and I was worried they felt exposed.

Well damn. Tested the water and the nitrates were fine, but the nitrites were just over 2ppm. Did a 25% w/c and I'm going to retest tonight when I get home. I hope that's all that has been stressing them out. That's strange because I used all old water for that tank.

Nitrates at 3ppm ??? What testkit measures less than 5ppm yet higher than zero ? heck my reef kits can't even do that. Did you mean 30ppm?

Lix.ma14 - The odoe is 2+ years old and a foot long - currently cohabs with 14" Indo Dat 12" Silver Dat 12" Lima Cat 20" Ornate Bichir 12" Gold Dust Bichir 10" Chalseus 8" Black Ghost Knife 6" male Firemouth.

Grew out over the past 2 with Cudas 4 different species, Vampires 2 different species, Jags, Escondido Texas, Vampire plecs, Gold Nugget plecs

You might try tossing some other fish in with them so when the other fish start eating they do too.

I picked up a half dozen from Tom and all ate on day 2 after watching the Bala sharks eat.

Freeze dried Krill in the filter output is your best bet to get them eating.

Your test results would have me doing small waterchanges several times a day. I'd expect this to be the cause for them not eating. Odoe are very hardy fish and not hard to get eating or converted to floating/frozen foods.

I've had probobly 15+ Odoe. Never had issues with any tankmates and the only fatalitites have been from jumping out.
