My 220 Gallon Monster Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's 72 long and 24 wide. Don't know the height. I heard that Jardinis get smaller than Silvers could one of those work? And can I see a picture of your Arowana?

Check the height. Your tank is probably a 180g which is 24" tall. 24" wide will get you by for the first year for a silver. Maybe a year and a half but definitely not 2 years. That's if you buy it at ~6" and don't powerfeed it. Jardini wont work either full time either. Jars get 3 feet which means they can't turn around in a 24" tank. They also will not tolerate tankmates. I would not recommend trying. Some will tell you otherwise but in 90% of cases it results in death.

my 225 is 5x3x2(wide) and I wouldn't put a silver aro in there. as much as I want one they need a lot of length because they are active swimmers. for the love of god do not take oscaroo's advice on anything, I had cichlids in mine originally and i got bored of replacing them for being to oaggressive, removing injured or dead ones and not being able to add any new fish because the cichlids were so territorial.

Right now in my 225 I have a giant gourami, chocolate cichlid, plec, a clown knife, a bunch of bichirs and some dithers. there are a couple of other oddballs in there like a small datnoid and an asian upside down catfish, but I am really happy with my stock. and I enjoy it much more than my cichlids. I have large peaceful predatory fish and everything works out great

Where are you getting a Jar reaching 3' from? One of biggest Jar I know of is Toby's 64cm which converts to a little over 25". Hell most silver aros top out just over 30".
A Jar could live in his tank for life, it would be better off with a 72" x 30" + footprint, but 72" x 24" will do.

I've seen pictures and heard of 30"+ Jardinis at public aquarium in Japan and few hobbyist in Asia/Australia. :) But normally they max at 24"-28" in average aquarium.
