Red tail payara care

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got my Armatus about 2 weeks ago for $100 he was just under 6" when I got him. Took just over a week to break him onto frozen foods. Now eating great and roaming the tank. So far he's been most active at night with the moonlight on, so that's when iv been feeding.

I think it has a lot to do with demand to. I only really shop on this site, and those fish are hot here. I don't blame the vendors for asking more, it's good business. Supply and demand lol. People charge it and they move the fish just as quick as they are posted. I hope someday I have more money than I know what to do with so I can say "I want that" and not give a crap about the cost! lol

I didn't even get a 6 inch tat for 80 bux plus a free datnoid! lol
you can armatus now for 100 bucks plus shipping! 200 bux for even 2 tats is overkill IMO. depends on location?

It took a little while but my red tail payara has been eating krill for a year now and has been in w/ my pbass and other cichlids for a while. Grows a bit slow IMO, but his tail is starting to really turn red these days...

That was the only way my tat would take non live food. weird little fishes they are

As you can see in his avatar...He alreay has a tat ^^^^

No no no, not the OP! The second guy who posted, deansouth11 the one who brought this thread back from the dead. He doesn't have an avatar! He's still looking for answers! :p

Edit: you're probably right about location for the price, too. If I see either an armatus or tatauaia around here for less than $200, I get excited lol

Im looking at getting one also with my arowana, knife fish, and alligator gar in a 75 but probably a 150 soon. Post pics if you would please! And have you found out if they could live without a powerhead yet? Thanks!

I would advise a powerhead but they can suvive with a filter with a strong current. You'll need a tank way bigger than a 150 to hold all those fish though. Perhaps a 350 gallon tank will do.
