good marine wet pet for 50-75 gal

If I wanted a toby I would put it in my community marine set up, I'm after the kind of guys that you can't keep with corals or small fish. lions triggers that kind of thing. I do like tobies but then that would completely change the stocking and I would end up with 2 tanks that have the same kind of stock...

I like the larger puffers, I was always told that dogfaces and spiney porcupine fish would be okay in a 75 but for some reason when I look them up it says they need HUGE tanks and they only get to 10" ish obviously a lot larger in the wild.

Dog faced puffer. Nothing compares!

I believe it's called a spotted Toby, I saw one at my lfs and they are really cool. They get like 5 in. Check out liveaquaria.com to see even more options.

if you want a dogface, get one. would take years for it to outgrow a 75 (or even a 55) if it ever does at all

you see this is the problem I have right now, all the websites online (especially liveaquaria) seem to suggest really over the top tank sizes for fish which in most cases will never reach the full size it says they can attain in the wild.
I don't want to be cruel and stuff fish that are too big in a small tank, but I would like to know what I could have in there. Obviously I'm not a monster and if a fish was too big and unhappy I would sell it to a responsible aquarist/ responsible aquatics centre.

How about a spiney porcupine fish? are they okay in a 75 at least for a while? I know the regular porcupines get really big but as far as I knew the spineys were much smaller (and slower growing)

I have nothing against tobies, I used to have a really cool Valentini puffer a few years ago, the only issue is I would want to have larger more predatory fish only guys in this tank and the toby wouldnt last too long with say a lionfish

I don't know about porkies but go for a dogface. I don't know what else you can do with them or if they are comparable with corals though. I have my Valentini with corals and he is cool with them.

Well i've kept a dogface years ago and they mix well with other fish only predatory fish (triggers, smaller groupers, lions etc) I have a pretty good idea for a stocking.
I actually think that I probably would have this set up. I've thought about all the options and I feel like I've done a lot with freshwater set upts over the last 10 years, and that my unfortunate end to the marine fish only tank pushed me back to freshwater, I feel like maybe its time to get back in the fish only saltwater hobby. how does this sound...

Dwarf lion
Large wrasse
Dog face puffer
Picasso trigger
rabbit fish to eat algae

in a 75 overfiltered. do you think I could get away with more fish? or is that stocking just right? I also don't mind thinning the stock a little when the fish get larger.
