Endo, I find that most vieja type fish look best with a black background. But this fish is still very young, you need to give him some time to fully mature & he will color up nicely.

Ok will do.

Since your an expert RD, I wanted to ask you if adding vitamin supplements to the tank's water will be beneficial for the fish or not.
Seachem has a vitamin supplement called Nourish that has amino acids, and
what do you think about this "natural" astaxathin supplement. It looks like a gimic to me that'll just paint the fish, but im curious.

Endo,

NLS already contains an ample amount of amino acids, vitamins, trace minerals, astaxanthin, and everything else that your fish requires for both optimum health & color.

I thought so, but I never saw amino acids or astaxanthin in the ingredients. Thanks

Not everything is listed on the label in minutia. As an example, amino acids are the detailed break down of protein. For most hobbyists it makes more sense to simply list the crude protein content, than each & every amino acid that is present in the food. Ditto to fatty acids. The algae meal in NLS consists of seaweed, kelp, and several micro-algae, including Haematococcus pluvialis (a form of astaxanthin) same as the red powder that you posted a link to.

If a fish doesn't look great on a diet of NLS, it's time to go shopping for a new fish. :)

Good to know, thanks Neil

Damn gotta admit I didn't like him much the first time I saw your thread but he has really taken shape. I love his eyes and his red head.
