CREATING THE ULTIMATE FILTRATION AND EVOLVING WITH YOUR FISH!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright guys did a video on the filtration set up, keep in mind I am looking for functionality not looks here, quality fish, and most importantly ease of maintenance I can do a water change and clean the filter at the same time AWESOME:headbang2. I would have really liked to put a uv sterilizer inline but funds were limited so I figure I can add it later on should be easy. I am also not very good at making a video so forgive me there.

Cool, thanks for the video. Seeing that just reminded me why I like sumps; I hate having equipment in tanks!!! If I'm going to run one of these I need to figure out a way of putting the heaters somewhere less visible, and I would also like to keep at least some of the surface skimming that a sump does. Not sure how exactly, but there has to be a way somehow!

Awsome man but you do need a basket for the suction or you will have a fish stuck to it !!!!!!It's a powerful suction!!

Yeah I know no fish in there now. But will do when I am ready thanks HULON.:)

Looking good, Cigars. Thnx for posting.

I am at the other spectrum I am done with sumps I have three set up and running on different tanks,fx5's, ehiems, hob filters this may be because I have so many tanks up and running I am doing maintenance daily yes an inline heater would be great. I think with 3k gph on a 300 gallon I wouldnt need surface skimming but only time will tell we will see. What about a huge overflow boxes on either end of a large tank are they unsightly to you? It is a huge obstruction in the tank (with the exception of external overflows). Are heaters any more or less unsightly than a huge overflow box? I think we as fishkeepers have become used to seeing it and has become the norm in a aquarium. When I upgrade to my acrylic tank I will be looking for some sort of inline heater, if I do have an overflow it will be external and I will plumb it to this filter.

They do look a bit unsightly, but not as displeasing to my eye as heaters and power cords. The less gear I have in my tank the better, I didn't even like seeing my return/spraybar in my old 370g although I got used to ignoring it after a while! Made with tinted glass or incorporated into a background the overflows aren't too bad, but I can understand you're going with function>form for this one. Looking forward to seeing what you think of the filter, hoping the price Hulon gets me for shipping to NZ doesn't kill it for me. Is there much noise from the filter with the media circulating?

Are you talking about denitrator? That thing has been around for years. What's the average size of your sumps? I don't know about those huge filter system, but as for me and a few members that I know, those glass/bead filter works for us better than a simple sump

I have a few 4x26x20 sump. 6x24x20 and 7x20x20. I guess my sumps are a bit bigger then most come to think of it, they all hold 15-20KG of matrix also.

I may have to try one of these glass/bead filters out.

Not a denitrator, its new was at the exbo down here last week. theres no chambers, its a bit like an air pump. I am not very good with all the scientific stuff behind things but the way it was explained it electrically breaks down the units that build into ammonia nitrite dont quote my exact words on how it works but. they looked too good to be true and we did not get to see them tested. My boss order 20 so we will have them in the shop within the next week - 2. I will write everything down and post it here if you want.

as for overflow boxes with sumps. I find its nicer to just have a pipe and wrap it in plants or cover it with rocks.

I hear you man, the filter itself is very quite to be honest I put my ear on it to see if I could hear any movement of the media I would have no problem putting this filter next to my couch (not going to) its that quite only noise heard is the pump which compared to some of the ones I have in my sumps not to bad. Maybe you could improve the sound level with some rubber mounts for it, I just mounted it to my stand with 2x4 so I am sure its resonating some throught the stand. I gotta tell you the filter has already polished the aquarium I could tell the next day it was clearer its almost like when you add a uv sterilizer the next day you can tell a huge difference. I was just curious on your thoughts of overflows they are not to bad but over all they take up space there is always ways around things, thats why I love mfk so many people with great ideas that are shared:)
