Definatly not brasilliensis head shape and fin shape just arnt right all though the coloring is correct. Maybe a hybrid?

Geophagus iporangensis is part of the braziliensus complex, so the differences are very minor.
Looks like it's been poorly taken care of, so you may get a better idea after you've given it TLC.
They do appreciate cooler waters than many tropicals, and although they don't require cool downs like Gymnos, they are from more temperate areas of Brazil.
I've had braziliensus spawn in my ponds when temps were on in the 60sF.

No known genus within the Geophaginae family hybridize.

It looks like a Geophagus Taeniopareius with the vertical line and spot placement, but seems like yours has a bigger spot than most I've seen.

It's either brasiliensis or iporangensis. Its body shape looks odd because it appears to be in poor condition, which often causes a "hunchback" effect in SA cichlids. This could be from internal parasites and bad water which would lead to starving and wasting away. In addition to fattening it up, you should probably run it through a treatment with prazi, followed a week or two later by a full round of metro. JMO.

Yeah I thought about that after I posted that. I've never seen any geo hybrids. And what I should have said is it doesn't look like my bras. And skipped the definatly part.

Hopefully, somebody can identify once better pics are up. But after comparing, I take back it being Taeniopareius, and yours share more similarities to iporangensis.
