RIP Junior - Lost my prized Creamsickle Midas today.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What did his total length end up? 11" seems like? Rapps' midas strain sure don't get very long but they sure get beefy! He sure was red too. Bummer. You should take him to a taxidermist...

Sorry to read about this, Scott. Always difficult to lose a nice fish early on in its life.

Not to rub salt in your wound, but this fish was obese, that's always been rather obvious to me. Fatty infiltration of the liver has been designated as being one of the most common metabolic disturbances and frequent cause of death in aquarium fish. People on MFK seem to love the big chunky beasts, but those extra calories come with a price tag, and your fish just paid the ultimate price.

BTW Modest Man, "Rapps' strain" is like any other strain of citrinellus found in the great lakes of Nicaragua, the only difference being is that you will never see a fat foot longer swimming around in the wild of Central America.

I called them "Rapps' strain" because other "A. citrinellus" from other vendors don't end up looking the same - even with hobbyists overfeeding all of them.

RIP.

Happens to all of us and it is always a bummer!
They just need to be alive, in fact.

Start over.

Sorry to hear about your loss.... I had a female Firemouth that died suddenly, quite recently... She was overweight aswell. Apparently Flowerhorns die early aswell due to the same problems. My guess is it suffered a stroke. I had a massive Labiatus years ago that lived 16 years before he keeled over - its always very sad.

He was over 12" when I extended him. Just hard to take pictures with 4 kids swarming you. My 2 year old was all over trying to get at him while my other 3 were upset. I considered it, but since I checked into it to see if anything looked wrong inside I doubt it is possible. Helps to be a son of a vet.

Really sorry for your loss bro he was amazing abd gonna be missed!!
Thanks man, really appreciate it.

RD, I appreciate it. Not arguing that he was a chunk, but his liver looked fine. Also, staying out of this Rapps discussion on strains. I have a paper to type and just don't have the energy right now.

Sad but an unfortunate part of fish keeping sometimes. He was a gorgeous specimen too.
Thanks buddy, would be easier to accept if he was 10yrs+.

Sorry for the loss. Theres a select few famous fish on here and junior was one of the best. Congradulations on raising such a beast of a fish and thank you for sharing him with everyone. I would definitely raise up some fry and see if the next heir is in there.
Thanks buddy, I am considering it. There is a dominant male I kept who might just be taking his place.

Damn that sucks. He was one hell of a specimen. At least you got some fry outta him
Yeah, I have a ton of them. He was a hell of a specimen.
