Finally - Ultima 10,000 Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There is a small glass on the side of the filter that will show you if the filter needs to be backwashed.

That's not how it works. The sight glass is outside of the filter. Water passes in front of it only during backwash.

Is this so you can see the water while your backwashing? My pool filter does not have anyway of viewing the backwash except looking at the water flowing out, in my case into my alley and completely out of view. I was thinking about some clear PVC for my backwash pipe. I'm starting to like the Ultima's because they thought of stuff like this.

Don't wait until the glass is dirty to backwash. Keep an eye on the psi gauge. Btw, don't backwash until 4-8 weeks after you setup your filter, so the media can get mature. Since you use a small pump on a big filter, you may hardly see change in the psi, so once your filter is mature, you could just backwash it every water change, so those waste doesn't get a chance to break down and pollute your water

That's exactly what the sight glass is for. When your pressure gage hit a certain PSI, you perform a backwash. You don't stop backwashing till you see it is clear though the sight glass. Cutting the backwash short will return curd to the tank. For units without a sight glass, you can buy a small section of clear pipe from the pool store and install near the filter on the waste line. And I do enjoy watching poo go down the drain.....blacker the better.

I flush my filter until clean water runs out into the alley. Then i run around to my pump to turn it off so i don't dump clean water into the alley. It just saving water and it would be nice to see the dirty water turn clean right next to the pump on/off switch .......

I did the first baskwash today, the sight glass was pretty dirty while washing, I rocked the filter back and forth a bit as BigRich said and it worked. As it got clear I would then rock it some more and then it got dirty again. I did this till it stayed clear. Then I did the rinse cycle and saw more dirt, etc. At this point my tank about about 60% drained. Put it back to filter and filled the tank up. I didnt notice anything being tossed back into the tank when the filter came back on. This took about 6 minutes or so.

Damn I gotta get one of those filters!

Tank was crystal clear this morning. :)

When I turned the filter back on it helped move the rocks and stir up some junk so I didnt have to do it myself. I LOVE this system and thinking about getting another Ultima like the 2000 for my 265 :)
