my 7" dorado in his 125gal. Hoping to keep him in here until hes about 12". does anyone know a trick with substrate or food to make him turn gold quicker? and does anyone have a dorado thats gold currently?

Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, and I think all of us here can agree that live fish look nicer then dead ones, and dead fish will be in the tanks of people that try to raise fish that do poorly in captivity.....

We're all entitled to our opinions, that's why I made sure to caveat that in my post. All the big toothy, characins are awesome, I just happen to be partial to the big, yellow ones.

I found MFK on a quest to find information in regards to caring for Payara. Had lots. Killed lots. Nobody knows why they die, they just do. Dorado don't. You can only loose so many without a reason before you call it quits and enjoy keeping something you can actually grow up and enjoy monster sized.
The best Payara I even owned was the Cynopotatomus I bought from G that were imported as Armatus. Stayed small, didn't die, cohabbed with everything, ate everything, and the guy I sold them to still has one (one jumped) like 5+ years after being imported.
As far as Dorado, IF you can honestly watch Triggeraas vids and not fall in love then more power to you, but I'm not that strong. That trio was to die for.
