So recently ive been slowly replacing my marineland filters with aquaclears due to the fact that they clogg up soo fast. Rather than purchasing replacement filters every 2 weeks, does anybody have any methods or ideas to make them more efficient?

Buy bulk blue filter sheets at ur lfs, cut them to fit, very cheap and very efficient. I use 1 18"x36" sheet every year and its 7$. I run no carbon and bio so its very economical, and after I rinse them a few times then I simply use them as sponges when they wear out, great for kitchen use

I am gonna get AC replacement too, but for now:
with my emperor 400, I never replace pads anymore. The first time they're dirty, I cut open a slit all along the very top edge of the material that holds the carbon & throw it all away (power rinse), bcuz depleted carbon will leach toxins back into tank.
Rinse pads as needed & re-use.
No need for carbon unless removing meds.
I use API ammo-chips, marineland ammonia neutralizing blend, purigen (whichever I have) in the emperor 400 Media Containers.
With smaller marineland models, you could do the same thing and refill pads yourself, if u really want to. Make the top slit closable with a bit of velcro. but it'd be easier to just put a small loosely filled (fine-mesh) bag of media in the inflowing compartment.

Take the pads out and buy sponges, cut them to size and stick in the back. For media I use a tied off piece of pantyhose (yea that's right) and fill it full of media and place it below the spnges.

Sounds likeyou want to replace the Marineland filters because they are doing their job?...I have heard many complaints about them but this is a first.I rinse my filter pads under a strong hose weekly.
