Male or female jack Dempsey?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not trying to crush your hopes and dreams. Just talking mate..

1. Is it responsible breeding to breed not good quality specimens.. ( up to you, your fish)
2. What you gonna do with your fry? (they have a lot of babies)(maybe low quality at that due to parents)

not flaming your thread just talking it out before you do it.. food for thought stuff you know?

I have spare 10 gallons I could raise the fry in. I might even buy another 55 just to raise my fish fry in. But this is all preparing for later on. I'm not starting to breed them. I am just trying to get a pair to be sure they can breed.

Venting the fish is the 100% way to know the sex. Getting the fish to a healthy size/weight is best. Providing the proper tank for breeding is also a must. Keep us informed..

If it's a male, I will have to go pick up some jack dempseys of similar size just to get a pair. Then get rid of the extras. I would definitely not mind getting a dempsey/con hybrid. And I have a lot of cons.

Thats my main male con that is always with the jds. Sometimes the mom con moves him away. Noticed her hanging out with this little male lately. So it's a possibility.

Andrew, the lighting is a bit bright..

Male IMO.. and if your thinking about doing this for real.. grow him out some and see if he shapes up a bit.. but I would be thinking about another male for breeding atm and him as a second choice.

Are you saying for the con or the Dempsey? Sorry. I took a flash photo for both.

Oh ya, I'm planning on just gonna sell my Oscars unless I can get a 75. Which I should be able to keep both in right? Gonna sell my plecos, unless they have fry. I had like 4 plecos I didn't know about so they may have had babies. Gave the small plecos to my cousin and petsmart. Now I just have one in the 10 gallon with the turtle and cons, and two or three in the 55. If I get some more money I'm going to start setting up a couple 55 gallon tanks to breed fish in. But this is just another idea I'm thinking of. Only If I can get a female jd.

Not sure if my other male is high quality or just greatly colored?
But I definitely would like to breed him. He's my current favorite fish. But he has amazing colors and I'd love to breed him. uploadfromtaptalk1351530983639.jpg
Whenever my phone flashes near the glass it turns it yellow in the pic. Sorry for the photo hogging oscar. uploadfromtaptalk1351531037776.jpg
I dropped a country crock lid behind my tank and can't get it lol don't mind it. That was one of the con holding containers when I set up the 10 gallon.
