Fish Compatibility in a Large (3,000 gallon) tank

pacu mom thanks for the pics and the links. there are helpful ideas in there and I plan to use them.

I really like the idea you gave me of having something 'built' for access to the tank from above. I hadn't thought too much about it and now that you mentioned that, my ideas were pretty undeveloped.

I'll post back as I move through this and I'll be posting in other forums on specific questions about the tank itelf, sumps, plant decor, filtration, etc. I really like the extra fish ideas I've seen so far and if anyone has more suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them.

Defintly going to need large fish lol, pacas, gars, red tail cats, rays, AGTF,...

Possibilities are endless

What's your opinions on those particular ones? Pacus get gigiantic (50 lbs) and are 'said' to swim into the glass. I don't want a broken tank or is that more urban legend than anything else? Obviously, I've never had one, so I'm open to be corrected. I'd like to be corrected! Obviously people are keeping large Pacus and they aren't breaking lots of tanks, but the full grown ones seem to be in tanks much larger than this. If I could keep a few Pacu in this tank along with the others, that would be amazing.

As for gars, redtails, and AGTF, I like big fish, but I'm concerned these will make dinner of some of the others. I more or less do not want to get some fish knowing that whether they are eaten or given away, I can't keep them as long as I'd like.

Rays are something I'd like to consider though. Would those work in this tank setup? I discarded them off my list of some reason, and I'm at work without my notes. Not sure why I passed on them.

I added a few new fish from suggestions in this thread and I'm open to more. I think I have enough room and will certainly plan on enough filtration to accomodate more.

Depending on how tall you make the tank, you may want to acquire some scuba gear (and training, that is, if you don't have it already) for help in cleaning the viewing window. Snorkeling may work if its only 4' or so.
