Hey Everybody,

Just wanted to know what brands of tanks with overflows are best. The tank will be upwards 300+ gallons. Also is thier a huge differnce in glass clarity between acrylic and glass on a tank this size? The only site ive been looking at is www.glasscages.com where they have staphire glass....i'm trying not to deal with acrylic because of the scratches.

Thanks

Acrylic is much clearer and 17 X stronger. I would deal with the scratches for the added piece of mind.

I've trying to decide this and I could use some input.

Let's say that you would have to keep the tank for 15 years and could not correct the scratches or possible discoloring. Which then?

And, I'm not saying you can't clean the scratches with the fish in the tank. Let's just say that for whatever reason that you couldn't or that the discoloration was not fixable. Then what? I'm just pondering this since I don't have an answer, but I'm curious how other people would view it.

If I was thinking only for the next 3-5 years, I'm pretty sure I'd go acrylic. I'm not sure if my answer would or should be different if it's 15 years.

I have an acrylic and its scratched all to hell. They are small for the most part and you dont see them if you are looking at the wrong angel...but when you see it...all you want to do is buy a new tank. When i am ready i will be doing glass next time.

Too bad your in new york. My cousin builds custom fish tanks for a living. Usualy for rich customers or commercial/community displays. Iv been talking with him recently for a 250+gal.

My current tank is my dads old acrylic 55 gallon. This tank is older than me. It has scratches but not any discoloration. I personally prefer acrylic just because it won't shatter like glass

I'm getting a 350 (96x36x24) from fishtanksdirect.com in January in acrylic with free shipping. The glass tanks at this size are just to heavy and awkward to move for me. I prefer the clarity and peace of mind also. I also work retail and move quite often.
