OK, I lost power from Sandy 7:30 PM on Monday night.

8:00 AM on Tuesday morning, I started a battery powered air pump and ran it all day.

I am scheduled to get power back at 11:00 PM tonight.

It's a 55 gallon tank with 2 kissing gouramis, a dwarf gourami, an angelfish, and a bristlenose pleco. I have been feeding the fish daily, but the water temperature is down in the mid 60s.

What should I do when the power comes back on? Should I just let the heaters heat the tank back up the 78, or should I adjust it more gradually? I was debating heating up some water and pouring it in.

Jus turn it back on heater is.gonna take a while to heat the water anyway

In Manhattan and may not have power for a few days so in a similar situation. Unfortunately I have no battery powered air pump. I think as long as you have aeration you should be fine. Anyone have an extra pump in NYC???

Is my biological filter in my Fluval hosed, or can I expect the ammonia levels to go down slowly as things come back to life. If power comes on as scheduled, I will be 27 hours without running water in the filter.

OP, 1) you should not feed your fish during a long power outage 2) the BB in your canister is dead by now. (you should have floated the media in the tank and aerate it with battery operated air bump.) so clean your filter before turning it back on. 3) can you try get hot water somehow to raise the tank temp?

+1 most aquarium heaters heat slow as not to shock fish.

My canister shut down for 36 hour, didn't open didn't do anything just plugged it back in and params have been the same ever since. Put ur media in the tank till the powers back on, some of your bb may have died but its safe to say not all of it.

Some things to do is take careful readings and have patience. Fish (excluding fry) are built to not eat for days at a time. I've had sick / stubborn adult fish not eat for weeks. Prepare to do wc as needed and let the system recover.

Exactly this!

Quite risky. Depends on the percentage of dead material in there. I have seen a whole tank die in such a situation. And it was a 2260 eheim. Killed everything after a couple of days off power.
