What to do when the power comes back on.

Quite risky. Depends on the percentage of dead material in there. I have seen a whole tank die in such a situation. And it was a 2260 eheim. Killed everything after a couple of days off power.

Wow, I know bb isn't the same, and it adapts to different conditions and variables, I'm in no way saying leave it in the can, because when my filter shut off I unplugged it and forgot to plug is back in for 36 hours. I had just cleaned it out a week before so like you said that helps.

Good insight, I never even considered that. Makes sense that a canister that hasn't been cleaned out for a long time will have more waste inside thus killing bb quicker!

Mine as only out for like 2 days and I did nothing. The tank nis not discusting(regular water quality and fish behavior) I have not done a WC since last week. So I now my BB lived. It was only 2 days tough.

I need to find more time to post to these forums. Here's the status of what survived and what did not:

1. 2 Pink Gouramis - Survived
2. 1 Bristlenose Plect - Survuved
3. 1 very large angelfish - Survived 2 days after power came back and then abruptly passed away, leaving my son quite sad.
4. All plants died

I now have quite the algae problem and haven't had time to clean up the tank. I'm hoping to be able to work on it next week, after I get my living room painted.
