Anyone keeping rays using either one of these bead filters? Pros / Cons? Looking for feedback. They look like a great system to go with and thought I would check with ray keepers already using them. I'm setting up a 750 gallon tank and at first glance they seem like the way to go.

I use ultima filter on my 1200 gallon tank, its not really ultima, but looks just the same. Powerbead85 is the name of mine if you want to google it. Anyways, im very happy about it, it actually keeps the water clear aswell. I didnt belive thei were good clearifyers, but they are. Only thing is that you have to backwash them every 2-3 weeks. But its not much work at all, i love this filter.

I'd contact "Kendragon" in regards to Wlim bead filters. I think they would be better suited for rays then any other bead filter you're going to find and mite also be cheaper.

If you look at the filtration section "Hulon" started a really good filtration thread and there's lots of good info in there regarding these bead filters.

Sorry to revive the dead but do you use a pre filter on them? I am looking to by one this month.

If I remember the ultimas are sinking beads. Be a lot cheaper to buy a used sand filter then the media. I just bought a used Hayward 36t that I'm going to eventually use but will prolly go with a floating and reverse flow.

...curious too know if a bead filter along with auto drip system be sufficent for 300-400 gallons tingray tank vs
the biggest sump and auto drip.

Dont think it's possible to keep a bead filter in the stand...also do bead filters need to have media change or anything like that?

one of my tanks has 2 of ultima 1000g model filters under it. they fit (barely) but do well. i also have moving bed on all my tanks with overflows.my ultimas' suctions are plumbed directly from within a couple inches of the bottom of the tank so i can backwash them and drain the tank for water changes easily.obviously cant do that with overflows and moving bed and helps make water changes much quicker.

What type of guard do you use over the hole to keep fish or other large items out?
