Has anyone used this design pvc overflow?

I tried searching but could not find a thread on this one. My apologies if it has been previously covered.

I'm planning on building an overflow for my new 100 gallon glass tank. I am set on not drilling it so I want to go with a pvc overflow. The design on this one caught my eye as it looks very neat and well executed. However I was not able to find a similar design in action. I plan on not making the sifter slits that are on this design as I have another way of doing it that serves as a silencer as well.

Has anyone gone with this design? Does anyone see any possible flaws to it? Your feed back is appreciated. My goal is 1200GPH turnover.

I don't doubt that it would work, but that looks terribly complicated and seems as though it would be difficult to start the siphon.
 
That's what I forgot to mention. I planned on drilling a hole at the top and adding an air line fitting and air line for priming.
With that said, does this system look like it could safely re-start after a power outage?
 
If you were going to go that route with the airline, I'd suggest putting in a Tom's aqualifter to just automatically pull any excess air out of the overflow.
 
They all look more complicated than a simple hole in the glass!!

I'm not sure about the idea of adding an airline to help prime it, seems to me like adding potential for the siphon to break when the power goes off, would only take a tiny leak and you'd have a flooded house, a dry sump, a burnt out pump, and possibly dead fish depending on how long until you notice...

Drilling this tank is not something I want to do. I have decided to go with the standard pvc overflow design in the sticky thread.

I have used it on 2 of my tanks works like a charm and the flow charts are spot on as well follow the guide lines in the stickies here and you will be happy
 
The aqualifter is life saver cause without mine it would have emptied my 75 gallon 3 times already and it keeps the siphon working at its maximum efficiency at all times. For about 20 bucks it is definitely worth it and I got mine with the prefilter off ebay. I also got a holder for it as well off ebay so you can say I spent about 25 bucks on mine.
