My 6" male salvini was being beaten by my current CA's so I decided to add the deppi to the 150g. I moved the deppi about 2 years ago because he almost killed my robertsoni.
Almost immediately the deppi started to go after all of the other cichlids, but only chasing. I am hoping I won't have to get rid of the deppi. His color is amazing.
Think this tank is over stocked anyway?

H. Deppi 9" (measured him out of water)
P. synspilum 10"+
A. Robertsoni 9"
A. Rostratus 5-6"
H. Nicaraguensis 6"
R. Octofasciata 8"

Plus 5 two spot astyanax tetras.

Do you think the aggression will calm down or it won't work out?

Try adding more decor to break up the line of sight and provide hiding places it'll curb down agression. You can also try adding some wide bar silver dollars as dithers. it'd be a shame to give up such a beautiful fish

Thanks, I am going to add more decor. I was thinking tall fake plants might do that. The deppi and now the syn are going after the robertsoni. They both are chasing her around, and there is some shredded fins and missing scales :(
I don't want to add anything else to this tank. The astyanax I have are already 3-6" already and are really tough targets/dithers. They will nip cichlid fins, take food right out of their mouths, and will not back down from a cichlid the same size.

Ok so you have the dithers covered and fake plants might work but I've never been a fan of plastic plants. Also driftwood or some rock work would provide more solid barriers and hidding spots plus a more natural look, and you can add the plastic plants for some extra view cover. Try the plants and if it doesn't work add DW or rock or both. Assuming you really don't wanna get rid of him it's worth a shot :D Good luck!
