I am curious about the bowfin. How big is it, how long have you had him and reason not working in your tank? Sorry for the questions I am considering a bowfin but am in the researching stage at this point. I have a 150 with a spotted gar, Lima cat and a black ghost, compatible???
 
The bowfin is nasty :) He fights with EVERYTHING, bosses around my big Orino and will go face to face with him, no problem whatsoever. He hasnt damaged anyone but you do see scales floating in the water after the bass and bowfin take a shot at each other. Only reason he is in the 500 is I didnt want the flathead to make a meal out of him. He is 8-10" approx.

Unless the bowfin is givin an HUGE tank such as the ones seen at Bass Pro and Cabelas, at least this one, this will most likely be a bowfin only tank. He is only going to get bigger and meaner and they have some wicked teeth. Below is a photo of their equipment.
