How thick is the glass? I would think about an inch on the 300 and 1.5 inches on the 420 but that is just a gues...

Glass thickness has to do with the height of the aquarium and not the volume.

300 gal is 1/2" 420 gal is 3/4 top, bottom, sides with 2 1/2" starphire panes sandwiched together for the front.
