New Office mate (Blue Crawdad)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well she survived her first weekend. AND got her first fish! I did stop in to see her on Saturday with the wife and kid, since they hadn't seen her yet and there were still three goldfish. But as of this morning, down to two!

Also, still no name, my three year old wants to name her crabby. I'm leaning towards Callie.

After a few hours shy of a week in her new home the current kill count is:

1 or 2 Ghost Shrimp
1.5 Gold Fish
(there's a gold fish head sitting on a bush because someone came in the office and scared her while she was eating just now).

Prey left: 1 or 2 ghost shrimp and 1.5 Goldfish.

She's also had several algae pellets and brine shrimp pellets to get her some other food before she went hunting.

A few weeks later, she's doing fine, I think I pissed her off the other day while cleaning out the tank, because now she just stares at me from her little corner under the red thing.

That is awesome. I'm finishing school to become a teacher, and one of the things I can't wait to do (when I eventually get my own classroom) is have a classroom tank that students help take care of.

Nice setup, I would like to set up a 10 gallon like this.
Do you have a heater on that tank? And is it just a sponge-filter?

No, I do not have a heater, I've never seen the temperature in my office drop below about 70 (I think my wing of the building is the only one that doesn't have people running space heaters in the summer and fans in the winter). It's 74 right now. Tank temp is 72.

For Filtration, the Fluval Edge comes with one of their Fluval Power Filters (I think the C2) which have a method for controlling flow. It's very powerful and when at full power, it causes enough agitation at the surface that bubbles are formed and get trapped under the top glass around the opening.
