There is a book on brackish water species by an author called Neale Monks, thats the best I've read.

more to add to the list would have to be the Baensch atlas's

Illustrated Encyclopedia Of Aquarium Fish: A Comprehensive Directory Of Exotic Freshwater And Marine Species by Gina sandford. Book that got me hooked had some decent info and good pictures

OH MY GOD thank you crazy mike! I've been looking for that book for about 10 years! I was going to say it but I had no clue what it was called.
I grew up as a child studying that book all the way through. by age 12 i knew more about fish than any other subject. if only they would've given us tests at school based on fish and genus's haha

Do you remember any of the species of the top of your head? I've kept pretty much everything over the last 10 or so years

It was a cichlid listed as red devil but looked nothing like citrinellum or labiatus. It was red with black splotches and very large lips

That is what some of the wild A. Labiatus look like. if you have seen some of the F0 ones that rapps has sold in the past there are certain collection poitns that have lots of black on them.
Also captive labiatus usually lose the fatty lips (labiatus, means lips)
