How aggressive are Texas cichlids really ? I have 1 cyno about 5-5.5 inches who is about The same temperament as an oscar and I have a 4 inch carpintis(yes I know its not a texas) who is extremely peaceful. I always get told at any lfs how nasty these fish are and that they are as mean as red devils flowerhorns and doviis, what are your experiences with this species aggression

In my experience there aggression goes fish by fish but I do not think they are aggressive as rd but maybe as a aggressive as a Jack Dempsey

Cyano are definitely more aggressive IME, although I wouldn't put them quite along side a RD.

I have a Carpintis and it was getting pushed around by my parrot cichlid female until he won her over and they bred, but i would say that they really arent all that aggressive. They would bully around smaller cichlids but cichlids there size they are pretty peaceful.

You had a Carpintis breed with a Parrot Cichlid?!?!? I thought CA& SA couldn't hybridize?!?!? (Festae exemption*)

Comparison to JD aggressiveness may not be appropriate as JD is among the most timid CAs, and the older they are the more mellow they become. I had one that is so skitish that he would hide and jump up when I approached the tank, until I provided him with more tankmates for security.

Both Carpintis and Parrots are CA, so they can hybridize. Carpintis and Cyno are two different species of fish. Cyno is from Texas and Carpintis isn't from Texas but mistakenly named Green Texas. So the comments regarding their behavior is like commenting apple and oragne.

The Parrot Cichlid is South American. (Hoplacarus Psittacus )
That is what I was referring to.

I know the post was about a ParrotFISH/Blood Parrot, I was making a point on how the common names& store labels screw everything up. As seen in the Texas& Midevil debacle
