Every time I see a walmart sales tank I think of how much healthier and valuable those fish would be if they were sold at an lfs...:(

Move countries...? I doubt that's the thread starter's answer as he posted about his favorite store closing and not about Walmart's pet department conditions here and abroad.

Lol.. funny. I am mixed on this subject. It's a free market and if the hordes of stupids want to vote with their dollars for megamarts then fine.

Truthfully thats the only flaw with a free economy. What happens when the majority is stupid?
 
I do understand the feeling, a lfs here went under about 2 weeks ago. The owner sent out a flyer to regular customers to let us know he was closing after 23 years. There was a Petsmart, a Walmart within 5-7 miles of his location. There was also a Petco about 15 miles up the road. It was a good place with employees that actually had knowledge of what they were selling. I only have 3 options left for lfs and I'm not real sure about any of them surviving the chain stores all over the area.
 
This is why I will pass a petco,petsmart, pet world.. and other "chains" and drive 30+ minutes to the fish store.... and why I tell everyone I know who comes to me asking about fish to go there.
 
Have you tried online? I know its not my favorite way to buy live fish, but sometimes its the only way. Not to mention is generally more expensive. Many LFS in my area also closed over the past few years but due to retirement. They have been running the stores for decades and are ready to move on.
 
In this day and age, brick and mortor stores have to compete with mega-chains and online sellers. (Or become online sellers.. lol)
