Cichla kelberi sp Sao Francisco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks fellas!! Only way to tell what these guys are(including my neighbors) will be dna testing or something like that. So far there are no reported cichlas that look like these at this size, furthermore, theories are still unproven. This i think is what makes this fish interesting...:) i hope everyone will respect my decision on still calling this guy wc sao fran because those are the only things i know about them when we ordered them. Dealing with other wc south american fish and cichlas that my importer got at that time would make me believe that his south american supplier is legit. Personally helping open these boxes that came from south america just makes me believe it more hehe. Man opening and unpacking loads of wc fish is like opening a treasure chest! Everyone should experience this! I am lucky enough to have my importers trust. Or i gues he just knows that i go crazy over south american fish esp cichla :) Anyway still curious what this guy will turn out into. He/she may grow up to 16 inches and still look this way! Haha.

This is one of the saddest mornings of my life. The sao fran died this morning. Last night his mouth was opened more wider than normal and he had a jerking moment, or kind of like a hiccup every ten seconds or so.. I had the water changed thirty percent and added aeration, after an hour i was thinking the fish got better, no more hiccups and breathing slowed down a bit, so i slept for the night. Just a couple of minutes ago the guys in the lobby just called to say that the sao fran dipped to the ground and suddenly turned over. Got to the tank two minutes after, too late... Sao fran was one... Out of the 30 cichlas i have, the only fatality i encountered was with this guy and my pinima... I sure have bad luck on the rare ones tsktsk..
All the time and effort exerted on these fish just to have them die just like that is just crazy insane... First time im dealing with thoughts of quitting this game. Really really bummed out right now....

Damn man I am sorry it really sucks when you lose a bass

Trust me bro, losing any bass is a heavy hit. I thought about throwing in the towel when my Azul, orino and a Kelberi died due to my filter coming off its hook. That was one of the biggest hits I have ever taken while keeping bass. Sucks, I know....but you do have some of the rarest bass in your tank right now. Good things will come to those who wait. Keep your chin up pare, don't let a couple fish throw you off your game.

i feel you man. i lost my huge growout cichlas a year ago i had about 10-12 mix from tems, orinos and kelb they all died from me being stupid and cleaning my filter and heavy water change. i killed all the good bacteria in the tank and fed them normally without even think about what i did. 3 days later too late my ammonia levels spiked from not having the established bacteria to control the waste produced from them eating. all of them died within i would guess 30 mins before i work up. they all looked super fresh still when i woke up. eyes and colors on the body looked great still. that was a really hard time for me. i did not want to spend anymore money. i had alot invested in to that growout group. i then came across a great deal on a nice size bahia kelberi and 2 juvi orinos (only have 1 of this particular orino left) that i couldnt pass up. so now all i have is that 1 kelberi, 1 orino, 1 rio argauia kelberi, and 2 growout rio yucao orinos. its hard man stay strong, you still have some beautiful monster cichla left!!!

Thanks guys... Got my eyes on another brok and a xingu but after what happened... Damn.... Kinda hard and scary to decide on. Aaargh! Maybe its a sign that ive gone too far... I duno... Just really distraught... Just got out of the hospital too after dealing with severe pancreatitis and im goin back in this week for laparoscopy to take out my gall bladder... Sigh.... Hopin for something good soon... Ya'll keep your fish safe especially the rare ones!
