I've really wanted a banjo for ages and the other day I saw one at the LFS, would it be ok to keep it with large gravel, do they actually need to burrow, I have a lot of hiding places (pots, logs, caves)

Here's a pic of the gravel each stone is about 7 mm across

They are happy to hide anywhere. I've had two for a couple months now and they hang out in the fake plants which is nice because i can see them all the time. They never move when the lights are on and only eat at night. I am feeding mine frozen brine shrimp and blood worms until they are larger. They are always very fat in the morning with no food left. My tank is bare bottom, but will be adding sand soon to see their burrowing. Mine have doubled in size in two months. They were 1.5" when bought and now around 2.5-3". :) Very easy catfish to keep.

Might try, but I don't think they will. It's too rough and big. More likely will hide in plants, or behind filter inlets/outlets. :)

Banjo catfish don't really burrow. They hide. If you have lots of decorations in your aquarium, you will hardly ever see them. Boring fish.
