WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST TANK?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have pictures.. of my dad in his hippy clothes.. mom next to him.. me being held between them.. and the 55 next to them.. lol... but "My" first tank was a 10 gallon for x-mas... i eventually took over the 55 from my dad... he stepped back from the hobby for a few years( he's been keeping since a kid, idk tbh if my grandfather ever had a tank or not)... and I got deep into it.. he's had a 29 biocube now for a few years. and my daughter has a 37 in her bedroom... she's 3rd gen fishkeeper. and hopfully she'll be one as well. Hubby married into tanks.

August 2005 moving away yard sale find: $85 for a 55 gallon tank with two 15" pacu, four oscars and two foot long pleco. The pacu had difficulty turning around in that 12" wide tank. One oscar was already dying from HITH. Another oscar was severely stunted and deformed, probably from the horrific conditions he lived in most of his life. This is JDM at its worse.

Wow! Is that what started pacu fever? Absolutely love it, someone with enough dedication to house these giants their whole life deserves a medal! Awesome

I had a 20g with crappy under gravel filter, blue gravel and fish I cant even recall. Killed them like crazy because I had no notion of water changes. Dont judge to harshly this was 20 years ago...

Yea seems like wc craze came in the last 3-5 years! Now we know the pros and cons, and starting with a 20 is pretty decent actually!

OW that neon green gravel! it's uh
spectacular
?

Haha +1!

My first tank was glass jar around half gallon with one Molly in it ,after that me and my friends use to catch guppies from drains and use to put them in a thermocol box after that finally I bought a 10 gallon tank which was without aeration and filteration , and offcourse with no lighting and it was extremely over stocked with loads of kissing gourami ,Id sharks . Lol but after that I had changed my tanks for almost 10 times in this 2 years it feels like each setup I buy becomes smaller every month .And at present I have 2 30gallon ,1 20 gallon and I sold my 2 55 gallons tank and currently I ordered one 150 gallon .This hobby is most addictive drug for me lol .:D:D

My first tank was a 29 gal that had a red eared slider when I was small but my first real tank was a 55gal with three oscars , I changed the water every 6 months and with those water changes I would totally tear everything down and wash EVERYTHING. This was before the Internet and before I knew better than trusting the LFS.
Surprising as it sounds the oscars lived for two years before they died from diseases they caught from the nasty feeders I would get from the lfs.

I never trust the LFS (but I have to say they are quite knowledgeable) but before I buy a fish I do a week of research, sounds like you took a lot of time cleaning and trying to give them the best life, I say well done to you

No pics but my first tank was a 20 gallon with a red devil and a kenyi I know bad idea but then I got 90 gal and they were small

6.5 gallon
10 gallon
29 gallon
65 gallon
75 gallon
36 gallon
120 gallon

I have towrn down the 6.5 gallon and 10 gallon. I have been fishkeeping for over 2 years.

My first tanks were messes, my 6.5 gallon had tons of community fish in it, I had a 10 gallon with clown loaches, kuli loaches, tiger barbs, lots of groumis, roasy barbs, I didn't keep all the fish in the tank at once, they died a lot so i got replacements. my 65 gallon had 1 Oscar in it, not overstoccked, I just was horrible at mantence and didn't clean the tank often. 29 gallon, overstocked, I was better at fishkeeping by then so the tank wasn't a huge mess.
75 gallon, came with a asian upside down catfish, a monster 14 inch oscar, a monster pleco, pleco died from columnaris, asian catfish jumped, oscar almost died from columnris but he managed to pull though. 120 gallon, still playing with it, my plans are to have a pearsei cichlid as the main fish and have some othere cichlids and a birchir too. I have chaned my tanks countless times and I still am playing around with my stocks. I just don't move my fish around tank to tank too much beacause I learned the hard way by stressing my pearsei cichlid to death last year.

first tank was a ten gallon community tank stocked with community fish that were all later killed by the green sunfish baby i put in there, keep in mind i was about 11.
