The filter is doing great. I haven't had any problems but it hasn't been very long. Right now my tank is running a aquatop 500, rena xp2, aquaclear 110, and an emperor 400. I plan to replace the emperor with an aquaclear 110 and the rena with another aquatop 500 and then I will be satisfied.

I had a cf-500uv for 2 months haven't had crystal clear water yet in my 150g turtle tank. I just received my brand new fx5 in the mail today, I cant wait to see if it works like people say.
I just bought this filter and i am wondering does 1 white pad go with the blue in the bottom tray or do i use all the supplied pad that comes in the box
I use all 4 pads in the bottom tray, 3rd tray all bio matrix, 2nd chemipure elite grande, 4th tray prefilter. I only clean it every 3 months never really gets dirty

i just bought my second one for my 240 i have my other on my 125. i also have a FX5 on my 240 but it not a good mechanical filter. when i mean not good i mean terrible at mechanical filtration. almost lost all my fish to it
i meant what your saying is all 3 pads go on top of the blue sponge pad in the botton tray
I have 2 Aquatop 400s on a 160 and they do a great job, going on almost 2 years now. I bought 4 marinland course pads cut to fit, they went in the btm tray. 2 pads fit perfect. The top 2 trays are loaded with the media they came with, I also added some small chunks of lave rock and Sechems dinitrator, both trays are full. I clean them once a month but not at the same time. I rinse the top two trays in tank water and get some build up out, but the majority of it is in the btm below the 2 pads. In fact the pads are really not that bad. All the cr-p gets trapped in the btm. Very happy with these filters for the dollar. Will probably pick up a couple of the 500s once I get my 240 setup..
I've had the 400uv and the 500uv running since about march and they have been worry free. Do a great job.
I have sponge in one tray(2 in the 500) ceramic rings in another and mechanical media in the other 1.
