Bringing live stock back from overseas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey Crazyfish, As a heads up, most fish stores here dont offer receipts for purchased fish as far as i know, so i guess knowing the scientific names before hand to let them know what to fill in might help if they do have receipts to offer...

Other than that, good luck and hopefully you can bring some fish home with you :)

A bit off topic but anyone know the requirements for bringing fish from let's say Cali to NY? I am not a vendor. Thanks

Umm wouldn't that be domestic...Lol. Why would there be requirements besides trying to bring in illegal/banned species. Also note a lot of species are illegal in Cali so I don't know if you'll find much there.

Just wondering if a non vendor can fly to cali (for one of those siick ray deals) and ship it as cargo. I've never shipped so I don't know if the average joe can do that without a vendor lic. Etc. I can fly to anywhere in US freebie and there are some ray deals in other states that I hate to pass up

I wouldn't see a problem but isn't stingrays illegal in the Cali state? Also it isn't hard to pack and ship fish. I'm no vendor but I've west jet cargo'd fish across Canada before. Just need styrofoam box with outer cardboard box, bunch of newspaper, individually bag the fish and get oxygen filled in the bag. I got a LFS to help me with the oxygen. Pack it tight, this is where the newspaper comes into play. In the winter add some heat packs and do ship on direct flights. Less chance of it getting lost.

No worries. Honestly before I didn't trust myself packing and shipping fish but once I did it a few times it's really simple. Note it's much easier with shipping smaller fish as shipping monster sized fish has higher chance of DOA.

No worries, just want to make sure you're as prepared as can be :)
