So I'm doing the brakes on my 02 pontiac grand prix. I had the back brakes done last year at a garage and I did the fronts yesterday and noticed way too much brake travel after I finished. Bled the fronts a little and it got no better. So I replaced the master cylinder today and no improvement really. The car stops but there's to much travel in the pedal. Brake fluid is dark green so I figure I need to bleed the whole system because its has to be air somewhere. Haven't noticed any leaks either.

Any thoughts or am I on the right track with bleeding the system out?

Well that could mean your calipers never reset, see to take the caliper off the rotor in some cars you need to twist the piston inside the caliper to get it to retract so you can slide the brake pad in and out, before you do this your supposed to take the hydrolic fluid cap off so it let's the pressure vent.

Seems like they missed that step and then you may have bled it incorrectly and let more air in the system, without turning your car on go outside and pump the brake for a minute, then turn it on and pump again for another minute, you should feel it tightening up.

BTW is a standard or auto?

Car is auto. We took the cap off when we did the fronts. We didn't notice air when bleeding the fronts. Maybe the back need to be bled

Cap off....???? I hope ur not talking about the brake fluid reservoir... When bleedin brakes turn car on and bleed both sides... (Always start with the side furthest away from the brake reservoir...) and make sure ur brake reservoir is full with brake fluid with lid closed....

We took the cap off the reservoir when putting the new brakes on not when bleeding them

The cap comes off when you put the piston inside the caliper to vent...

Aqua go pump your brake pedal for a few minutes like I suggested.

Cap was off when doing the pistons. When car is off pressure builds up. When car is on it loses the pressure. Brakes work but the car has too much travel
