Whos the aggressor?

Why the dearil?

The texan is surely the agressor.

@cichobsessed thanks for clearing that up...although im still not sure which heirichtys it actually is...n the mayan is lookin way worse now...hes going to my friends 200 gal tom the Polleni doesn't look like he's been touched again. For some reason I don't think the Heirichthys is harassing him. I walked down the basement steps one day and sort of crept up to the tank to catch them off guard and I saw the Mayan chasing the Polleni nonstop, not just a "clear the area" chase either. Like back and forth, over and under. I'm hoping removing him will calm things down...for a while at least

That's incorrect Herichthys carpintis is not a type of Texas its not from Texas

That has nothing to do with it's common name. That is most definitely a carpintis "green texas".

Nice fish BTW. How's the polleni's personality? Skittish? I was going time pick some up but I've read that they hide a lot and are skittish.

^^^I knew that, but I wasn't prepared to argue with someone on a forum when they clearly they believe they know something that is untrue. The Common Name is Green Texas, all one has to do is google carpintis LOL but whatever. Anyway, the Polleni is surprisingly confident, especially to be the smallest and newest fish in the tank. He hides when the lights are out but a few minutes after the lights come on he's out and about. Despite all the large fish swimming around him. He doesn't hide from me unless I move really quick. Actually the Tex is the most skittish fish by far. Hides all the time and any movement I make sends him diving for cover. The Polleni is a cool little guy, Im waiting for him to add some size so i can really see his true colors so to speak. If you have the opportunity I would say why not grab one.

Best thing to do is park yourself at a distant enough location and observe for a good bit of time. Most cichlids Ive kept act completely differently when they know Im watching. If you can find a good spot and stay still or blend with your surroundings long enough, you'll get a good idea of what's going on. My breakfast nook is just far enough away where I can kill the lights and observe without them knowing Im watching and I've been quite surprised what I've discovered watching without them being aware.

Lmao I'm not incorrect a carpintis is not a Texas "green texas" is a nickname its not its real name its not accually from Texas so it shouldnt be called one, not tryna argue but its just a fact.

Actually now that I saw the picture on my computer Id have to say its a mix of carpintis x cyano. But anyways, I missed out a some young polleni at my local fish club. If they have more at the next one, I'm definitely picking some up.

So are all red devils red? Its a common name, it doesnt have to make sense.

Yeah, thats what I'm gonna do observe from a distance. As far as the name its all semantics lol. If you wanna be ultra correct neither are named Texas, they're both common names. Texas is a state in the Union and thats it. Their only true names are their latin names. And to be honest unless you go out into the stream and collect the fish yourself you could never be 100% sure what it is when theirs this type of confusion involved with very similar species, for instance devil/midas Im sure this fish is not 100% anything, just like most people arent. LOL But again, it could be carpinits it could be cyano, but most likely its a mixture somewhere down the line. Thanks everyone for taking the time to help me out though! Its most definitely appreciated!
