Could a single, young BGK live in a 75g tank early on in its life without stunting its growth? I would want a large tank as this fish could get up to 18''. (Surely you guys knew that ;) ) I just dont think a 75 g is a large enough tank for it to live in forever. Honest opinions and experiences are welcomed.

Assuming proper filtration and WC's....yes. most fish won't become stunted unless your not doing water changes and or cramp conditions. You could easily get a foot or so before getting a larger tank and no chance of being stunted at early age.

Great to know. Thank you very much. This is what I figured but I just wanted to make sure before doing anything crazy.

Thats the secret to the sauce... but yes... the secret is to do lost of water changes to dilute the hormones that cause stunting. and good nutrition besides filtration... imo you can never overfeed a YOY fish of just about any species. But its harder maintaining good water if your feeding alot.

Would a BGK and a Peacock Eel live happily together? I feel like it would but I just want to make sure. As far as tank mates go, anything big enough not to be consumed and peaceful is the rule? Any particular fish I should stay away from?

Mine stayed in a 56 cube til about ten inches then moved to a 120 for the rest of his life. Got to around 14 inches. Lived with a fire eel, oscars, JD'S , various cats and bichirs, young pacu and a juvenile aro. The only issue ever was with the eel over living spaces.

i've raised 5 in 2 footer than moved to 4footer. my fish are huge and breed regularly.
i also had peacock eel which is still in the same tank.
i do water change every 2months or so. never had problems. (though i have 2 canisters running in standard 4 foot).

Every two months! ! You're crazy! don't you know over filtration doesn't substitute water changes.

my bgk started in a 36" then now living in a 48" 70g (same footprint as 75) and a 70g Is a perfect home for life. Long enough and wide enough and sorry to say they don't really move until its pitch black in the room. Mine stays in his log 24/7. He Is around 7-8" ATM and a year old from when I got him. At like 3.5"

I need to spark up my fish life
