Stingray Tank Filtration Upgrade

I was recommended the 116 watt HO listed on this website.... http://wlimproducts.com/index.php?o...v&catid=9:ultraviolet-sterilizer-uv&Itemid=23

I may use the 58 watt HO and add another if I deem necessary. But, at $415 each I'm reluctant.

116 might be way better then 2 58s. Could be wrong but the way I understood it there's a huge advantage of multiple bulbs in a single unit as opposed to several single units.

If you're at 474 watts for 3700-4000 gph you could do lots better..... Wlim does pumps, Reeflo and Dolphin are also good ones..... For externals anyways. For these you're gonna have to drill, unless you're down to go bigger and acrylic :)

For socks if you're at 200 and 7x16s and they're plugging fast you must have some serious stock! lol How many socks are you running? I was gonna suggest some sewn together socks as they seem to last a lot longer then single micron rated socks, but they start at 200/100 and go down.

Could always rebuild the sump and use more socks..... Would make changes last longer. Maybe 4 socks and stuff some 300 microns in the 200s. 2 sets would allow a quick change out and you'd have time to wash the others. Maybe some porous sponges before socks, or even brushes. Moving bed media for bio is some pretty crazy stuff.... Wish I would have went K3 over K1.

Wlim does make some crazy nice bead filters too....

Can't wait to see what you come up with!!! :)

i have a aqua-uv 114w and a wlm 116w unit and both are basically end to end units.. my understanding is its more desireable to have the uv lamps across from each other rather than end to end.i have a 4 lamp unit (wlim)that is 4 lamps(58w each) in a square.i alternate lamps so that i always have a minimum of 2 lamps on that are across from each other.obviously, the slower you run the water thru the uv, the beter the kill rate. this is why i use mine on the output side of my bead filters since their flow rate is not extremely fast (like the return of a sump for example).my 2 cents :D

Mag Drive 24 does 1,850GPH @ 5' of head on 265 watts

Laguna Max Flo 2400 does 1,796GPH @ 5' head on 82 watts

The Mag Drive uses three times as much electricty to move essentially the same amount of water.

If you change over to more efficient pumps, they should pay for themselves pretty quickly.

+1 look up the Laguna pumps and find one fore your setup.
