Hey folks, I got four of these from Oliver Lucanus a while back and these two paired off....
I moved them out of their 220gal and into this 600gal tank, they seem a lot happier...
The male has a slight wound on his head from the move but no big deal.
I noticed a few days ago her breeding tube was down and she is really fat now but today I don't see the tube down...
no big deal but they seem happy..( I have been feeding them more)
when I first moved them the female was very cruel to all the vieja fish in the tank but now that she knows shes the boss, well she leaves them alone....here are some pic's....

I also noticed that she swims like a crippled snake when she gets near him......never seen her curve her body like that..

I tried something different a while back......I put the male pike with a large male midas in this tank and even had a larger male synspilum.........NOT good......when I got back to the tank(about an hour later)the synsilums face was a mess , and the pike and the midas would not stop fighting.....I stopped it and removed everyone to other tanks....luckily I can do that....so I know now that pikes should not be mixed with the more aggressive cichid species...

I also found out ( due to moving fish from one tank to another) that viejas are the fasted and hardest fish to catch.....
I would have an egg crate(lighting plastic lens) and the viejas would jump over it and land in the next opening(on top of the tank) and be in the water again(escaped), I was amazed....when compared to my heavy weights, that are strong but so slow(Blue Trimacs, Festae, Midas, etc.), they would fight with the net instead of escaping....lol
thats when I realized that viejas might be a good combo with pikes( you know pikes are very fast over a short distance but viejas are also fast over a longer distance and it seems to work, without any fighting).....

I too have had the exact same thing happen with my Vieja. When trying to net a V. Regani it flew out of the water and almost hit me in the face and landed back in the tank on the other side. I'm very impressed with your set up of your monster tanks, by the way! I'd love to see them in person some day :)

Good luck, they look very sharp

That looks like a killer tank. Do you have any more pictures you could post? Good luck getting them to breed!

These tanks are in the "DIY & ideas" section.....called "The Twin Titan Tanks".....
I have part 1(foundation and stands) completed and am now on part 2(mechanical and controls) section.....
part 3 (which is start up and the actual tanks themselves) will be posted some time this week....
