You can't beat the prices for fish and plants at the mini auctions each month at fish clubs. Also many local fish stores give club members discounts on purchases. That alone will most likely pay for your annual dues. North Jersey Aquarium Society members get discounts on items purchased from a few MFK vendors - Shark Aquarium, Route 4 Aquarium, The Fish Hut, and Your Fish Stuff. You can't beat that.

I'm on the board of NJAS. I run the mentor program for new members. Monthly board meetings are a drag. Same 18-20 people have been doing all the work for the last 10 years. Most members just attend the meetings for the speaker program, free coffee and donuts, and cheap fish and plants in the monthly auction. LOL!

We have board meetings probably once per quarter and have been experimenting with holding "chats" in our forum chatroom. It's been pretty useful so far!

Of course folks like to buy fish, plants, supplies, etc. for cheap...Having members interested in more than that, though, is necessary for a good club!
