Jools (the mastermind and owner of Planet Catfish) seems to think the length of the barbels is the best ID feature between the two fish http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=31975&hilit=+capapretum

I am not sure this would be helpful in grown fish. Mostly in juvie. I will see what info I can track down. Also not sure the spots are reliable either. It's very tough to distinguish. I will see what lundberg's input is if he replies(usually not during the holidays.)

If you can,Cliff, please split off the capapretum discussion off of this thread.

We can ask Jools to specify.

The spots are gone on sub-adults and adults of both species. They appear useless in babies and juvies anyway for distinction purposes... or so the experts currently are saying.

I'll definitely be on the edge of my chair to hear from Dr. Lundberg.

That tig makes him look small!!! Lol, that sounds so strange to read you calling me that. Wasn't my choice to have that with my avatar btw. :) I am uber jelly of those two catfish also btw lol.

Haha :D I thought U put that name down yourself ;)

Well the Tig might be so much bigger but it's slender compared to the body of the Capapretum at this current size.
