Picked up an Axolotl today!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The rule of thumb for axols is not to go over 72F with 68F being the safe high. It will probably be fine. But if you venture above 72 the immune system starts to suffer. It probably will be fine, but you are opening the door to possible future complications.

You can be successful with fish, just pay attention to their behavior, if it is small it will be eaten, if it might be able to get eaten the axol will try and make sure the choice isnt too aggressive. I used to keep shrimp with mine, but they all seemed to dissapear somehow

An axolotl is a cold water salamander, so why push the limits to fit something else in the tank. 75 is too hot for an axolotl, and not ideal for a butterfly fish. If you "have" to have something I've kept baby guppies in there as feeders, but the older they get the more likely they will pick at their gills. But the only thing that you should be keeping with an axolotl is other axolotls.
