Pothos toxic?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pothos are harmful to pets if ingested which is why I would never use them.

+1. With 4 very curious cats it is a plant that will never enter my home or tank.

I have a curious cat too, but she's not going to jump 5 1/2 feet to the top of my tank for a plant.... Maybe mine is smart and well fed? A lot of members have pothos and cats, never one bad story!

I can understand 4 cats cuz that's just trouble

Also when I train my cat if she gets around or in my stand I spray her with a spray bottle of water, 2 weeks after she won't even dare go near.

And awesome inglorious can't wait to see!

The micro-crystals do not need to be ingested. They are also located in the waxy material on the leaves and if mature even on the stem of pothos. The concentration is dependent on the size of the plant and its leaves. Have you guys seen a very large specimen? Back when I was young, we have had a few that have fully wrapped themselves around coconut trees growing as long as 50 feet or more. The fibrous material around the stems and the side of the leaves are big time irritants when you swipe through them. They are not called the devil's ivy specially in tropical islands for nothing. Use the plant with caution and put it in places that are not frequented by pets or children. They are not toxic, it is their defence mechanism.

Top of the tank seems appropriate ;)

Domestic pothos we have that are at lfs/garden centers are hardly that bad, they have them where children can easily touch them, however a 50' mature wild vine is completely different! Imo the toxicity a the pothos house plant is extremely over exaggerated!
