Battery Dead Two Days in a Row. Bad Battery?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Get the battery checked. Batteries are used to start the car once running the alternator produces enough power to keep the car running. If everything is fine once running and the problem only occurs after hours of sitting the battery most likely isn't holding the charge.

Have you checked the connections for corrosion as well? Many people forget to check that as routine maintenance and it can cause there to be a lack of charge in the battery even when the alternator is perfectly fine.

Easiest way to check if it's your alternator is to start your vehicle, then disconnect the negative cable to your battery, if it still runs, your alternator is fine, if it dies, you know that you need to change out the alternator.

Any auto parts location will do a load test on your battery for free as it's also possible that the battery has a dead cell.

If both the battery is actually coming up just fine on the load test, and your alternator is fine, then something is draining your battery overnight - check for things like a trunk light, glove box light etc, but hopefully it's something simple for you.

Yes, I'm female, but I happen to like mechanics :p

Could have a short that is draining the battery. Did you add anything lately that could be drawing electric that could drain your battery? i.e., new stereo, speakers, amplifier, anything that could draw electricity?

nope, everything is stock. as of right now, it seems to be just a bad battery. hope it's nothing more. I put in new battery two days ago, started the car today with no issues. i'll start it again tomorrow

I actually took the battery to walmart to test it and test results say it needs to be replaced. although there's charge and it will turn the car on, it most likely will happen again

sometimes bad battery cannot hold the charge.

put in new battery. problem gone forever hopefully
Not forever, probably for the next 6 years, if you still have the car longer than that
