How many dog people?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't own a dog of my own, but I grew up in a dog-filled house. When I was really young we had Basset Hounds, up to fourteen at a time. When I was eight my mom started raising Great Pyrenees. We always had at least a couple herding dogs - Blue Heelers and Border Collies, mostly. My mom ran the local dog 4H club and taught obedience classes as well.

As an adult on my own I've never kept dogs. It used to be our travels that kept us from getting a dog, then it was babies. Now that our kids are getting a little bigger (1.5 and 3.5 years old) we are thinking about getting a dog. My wife likes small dogs, but I just don't get the appeal of dogs that are the size of cats. We will probably get a Pyrenees. I think they are one of the best breeds out there - great with children, good-looking, cold-resistant (it will be an outside dog), and they are excellent watch dogs.

Here are a couple photos of one of my mom's dogs, Royale.

great dogs everyone...keep them coming.

Here's my trio of monster dogs as I call them ;) I have 2, 5 and 15 year old huskies.. Most talkative, stubborn, willful dogs I have ever had - but I've loved every minute of it. They have all been trained (and trained me) to do various things.. would do more sled work with them but we don't get enough snow here alas, just lots of ice - blah.
